On October 3, 2019, representatives of the University attended the eighteenth bargaining session with the union committee that represents Postdocs and ARSs.
The University presented a revised Employment Files proposal incorporating certain elements of the Union’s proposal, and the parties reached a tentative agreement.
The Union presented revised proposals on Health and Safety and International Researcher Rights.
The University agreed to consider the revised proposal on International Researcher Rights but reiterated its position that many of the issues the Union’s proposal seeks to address are outside the usual bounds of a collective bargaining agreement and require consideration on a case by case basis to solve rather than generic contract language. The University also stressed that its ability to act on behalf of international employees is limited by applicable legal rules and regulations.
The parties discussed the Union’s revised proposal on Health and Safety and agreed to schedule an informal meeting with a subgroup of the bargaining committees to discuss leave issues.
The next bargaining session is scheduled for October 28, 2019.
