Bargaining Session 16

Representatives of the University met with representatives of the CPW-UAW Union for their sixteenth bargaining session.

July 31, 2023

The University and Union resumed negotiations.  The Union added five economic counterproposals to the proposals on International Employees and gender-neutral bathrooms presented at the last session as a partial response to the University's June 30 Complete Offer of Settlement. The Union will present two additional counterproposals in the next session to complete its response to the University.  In addition to childcare and housing support demands in the Union's revised economic package, the Union's proposal on compensation includes an initial increase in minimum salaries of approximately 37% percent from today and increases for continuing employees of 6.5% each year plus a COLA adjustment.  The parties reviewed each article of the expiring contract and specifically agreed which sections were still unresolved, which were tentatively agreed to, and which were unchanged. The University suggested inviting a mediator to join the next session to help the parties come together to reach a mutually beneficial resolution.  The Union rejected the University's suggestion, stating that the parties could still make progress and a mediator was unnecessary. The next bargaining session will be held on August 1, 2023.
