Bargaining Session 20

Representatives of the University met with representatives of the CPW-UAW Union for their twentieth bargaining session.

September 14, 2023

In response to the University’s comprehensive offer of settlement extended during the 19th negotiation session on August 31, 2023, detailed below, the Union presented revised economic proposals including demands for an immediate increase of 20%-26% to the minimum salary level for a 0-year experience Postdoc/ARS plus a 3% increase for each year of experience either at Columbia or any other institution.  The Union’s proposals also included demands for annual compensation increases for each year of the contract of 6-8% and a $7,000 per year housing subsidy.  For the past two months, the University has been suggesting the involvement of a neutral mediator to facilitate the dialogue between the parties, ensure clarity, and assist both sides in reaching a consensus on any remaining open items. The Union agreed to mediation.
