On June 8, 2023, representatives of the University met with representatives of the CPW-UAW Union for their ninth bargaining session.
The Union presented revised non-economic proposals on Recognition, Appointments, Discharge and Discipline, Grievance and Arbitration, International Employees, Union Access, Workspace and Materials, and Benefits. In addition, the Union presented a revised economic proposal on Benefits. The Union did not present a revised proposal on Compensation.
The parties discussed the proposals and reached tentative agreements on Vacations and Union Dues.
The University presented a Comprehensive Offer of Settlement reflecting the parties’ discussions of non-economic and economic proposals. The Offer includes a revised Compensation article with a 5% increase in initial compensation minimums for postdocs and ARSs effective July 1, 2023. The revised Compensation article also includes increases effective July 1, 2023, upon reappointment, of no less than 3% or the new minimum, whichever is greater; yearly increases in compensation minimums of 2.5% in each of the second and third years of the contract and 2.75% in each of the fourth and fifth years of the contract; and annual increases upon reappointment of no less than the applicable new minimum or 2.5% in the second and third years of the contract and no less than the applicable new minimum or 2.75% in the fourth and fifth years of the contract. In addition, the Comprehensive Offer includes a one-time relocation payment of $1,500 to all newly hired employees on or after January 1, 2024, and a Hardship Support Fund of $250,000 for the term of the agreement.
The parties are scheduled to meet again on June 12, 2023.
